I've been working since I can remember. In high school I had a typical fast food job. As an adult I worked odd jobs, including a stint on a cruise ship, until I came into the corporate environment. From there I worked my way up the ladder while achieving both a Bachelor's and Master's degree. It took until I moved to NYC for what I thought was supposed to be a dream job, and was anything but, to realize that I no longer had it in me to work 70+ hour weeks while playing office politics. It was then that I decided to listen to that nagging voice in my head reminding me I was meant for something greater - to help people achieve their life's purpose. It wasn't easy to finally listen to that voice and launch my practice; I was filled with fear and doubt. How could I be successful? Will people think I'm a fraud? Does this mean I failed to live up to corporate standards? When I honestly assessed these questions plaguing me I realized they were based on old stories I told myself based on my life growing up.
Growing up my family moved around a lot which created a life of instability. I was in a new school attempting to fit in with new people every 1-2 years. My dad was away from home working most of the time and my mom was constantly trying to find her identity in a new place. My parents loved us but they didn't have the tools necessary to teach us about communication, financial responsibility, preparing for and going to college; I knew I would have to figure life out on my own. I was always determined to have a more stable life than what I grew up with so I relentlessly pursued; quickly moving on from jobs, places and people who didn't feel right. My mission was to be educated and make 6 figures. Well once I accomplished those goals I realized I wasn't any happier, something was still missing. It wasn't until I came to NYC when I discovered the real things that gave me joy were connecting with people.
But you see, no one has it easy in life. It's adversity and courage to take risk which build our character. I was lucky enough to have friends and family who supported and believed in me and this crazy dream of helping people. As Tony Robbins states "It is It is in your moments of decision that your destiny is shaped." The day I decided was the day I became alive, full of energy and excitement knowing I was embarking on this journey that had been calling me for many years.
